The Studio can be used for several purposes.
Ranging from singer song writers to rock & pop bands or jazz and classical ensembles.
Here are some common examples:
RECORDING A DEMO (3-4 songs)
Are you in a band that just started writing/rehearsing songs
and you want to record a demo to present your band ?
You might not have a big budget, but do want your songs to be in good recording hands.
As we ourselves are musicians we understand what that startup fase in a band means.
We can help you out to get the best out of your first songs and recordings.
How does it work:
Before we start recording we meet eachother in a cafe, in the studio or at your rehearsel room.
We will talk about your music, the studio, what the goal of the project is and what you expect from it.
If possible we can listen to your music and talk about how you would like to record it.
And then ofcourse the money thing. We understand that young bands dont have large budgets.
We can work with almost any budget! Still we have to keep it real recording a double CD with 24 tracks
on it with a budget of 500 euro is simply impossible :).
Before we start recording we like to hear the music.
What we normaly do is visit the band/artist at the rehearsel room to have a listen to your sound.
Most bands have primitive recordings of songs that also help us to understand what your music is
about and we do it for free.
RECORDING AN EP (5-8 songs)
For a lot of bands/artists the second step is to record an EP (extended play).
The bands/artists know what to expect and what it’s like to work in a studio.
We will do our very best to understand your music before we record and
help you to get the best result at any reasonable budget.
We often do a fast pre-production of the songs at no charge.
This means that we will setup and soundcheck the gear and record all the songs in a live setting.
Just like giving a concert you start a set and dont stop untill you played all songs but then your audience will be mics and our ears.
After the ‘ concert’ we take a break and grab a bite to eat.
And then we listen to the recordings and talk about what we hear.
Perhaps we hear a bass and kick that should connect better on a certain piece,
or a guitar lick that’s to lazy or a strange harmonic between two guitars and a bass player that nobody heard before ;).
And sometimes one or several songs taped in this ‘ concert’ setting ends up being on the album.
We also use this first day to if necesary adjust the sound of the amps or drums….etc.
RECORDING AN ALBUM (9-16 songs)
Recording an album in our experience can be a heavy process
We always advise a preproduction of the album, especialy when you are on a limited budget.
In our experience it realy helps to get the songs and the album to a higher level and it doesnt cost a thing
when you record at our studio.
Album projects for obvious reasons are more expensive. It also strongly depends on how the album will be recorded and how experienced the musicians are.
Do you want to record with the entire band in one go, or do you first want to tape drums and bass and then all the other layers seperately.
There are al lot of options to concider. Perhaps some tracks on the album should be recorded with a click track and some ‘in one go’ and some with separte takes. If you are on a limited budget then one big advice is, be prepared. Being prepared and ready to tape your parts is what saves a lot of time!
We have a very flexible agenda. We understand that a lot of talented musicians/artists out there have a job, are studying or have other obligations and that its simply impossible to book the studio 7 days in a row with all members present.
No worries, with some carefull planning we can adjust ourselves to your available time.
ONLY RECORDING & RECORDING OF TRACKS (dubs)
If you just want to record all the tracks for your project and then mix it in another studio or at home.
No problemo.
Lots of musicians & bands have a home studio and record most of their instruments (guitars, bass, keys & vocals) themselves.
For most home studio environments its impossible to record drums, bass & guitar amps (especialy loud tube sounds) , a choir or violins & cello’s because of space, not having enough or the right mics or perhaps your neighbours.
We can assist you in every stage of the recording proces. You could record the drums and or other things in our studio and take it back home to import it back into your DAW or another studio.
PRODUCING – SONGWRITING
Do you need help writing a string quartet for your song or just need an outsiders point of view on your music?
It can be very helpfull to ask somebody with experience in producing music to listen to your songs before you record.
Even before the pre-production. Somebody elses input might just be what a song needs.
E-mail us if you have any questions.
